I’m Teesside born, but moved to Cardiff in the late 90’s where I began to sing in bands.
I’ve sang both lead and backing vocals for a wide variety of bands/artists. These included The John Martyn Band, Tigertailz, The Hindenburgs, Syd Kitchen, Then Came The Wheel, Alan Thomson All Stars, Frank O’Hagan, Rhian Benson, Angel De Lux, Leighton Jones, Angel Farringdon.
In the mid-Noughties I worked with rock/funk (runk) outfit Dark Chunk (from where I took my surname and became Suzi Chunk) we (Dark Chunk) were named as Best Newcomer at the Glastonbury Festival in 2004 and went on to record an album- “Multi Speed Stimulator” -in 2005. After Dark Chunk split, I went on with Chris (Krik) Young of Dark Chunk to record and gig with Omega66. Along with Krik, I now regularly play the funk with Cardiff band Monkjack, and a new funky project Canute.
I’m told (by Glenn) that it was my lead vocal work with Omega66 (the track “Celebrity Burn Out” to be precise) that caught the attention of songwriter Glenn Prangnell (of Groovy Uncle).
The first Groovy Uncle/Suzi Chunk release was “Look Back And Laugh”/”Tripwire” in May 2012,
followed by a full album “Girl From The Neck Down” released in September of the same year,
both recorded at Soundgate Studios and released on State Records on vinyl.
A brand new Unc & Chunk single on vinyl released on State Records is out 28th July 2014, and the album ‘Persuaded’ will be released on vinyl, CD and download later in the year.
